An American in Scotland

My name is Jada, I’m an American, and I’m going to Scotland for six months. I’ll be studying at the University of Glasgow and hopefully living like any 20 year old Scottish college student would. But of course I’ll be American, not Scottish, and the culture shock is sure to be insane. So I’ve decided to document my insanity, starting from about a month and a half before I hop the pond until I return. I hope to share photos and snippets from my daily life with y’all. So this is going to be, starting around January first, a travel/photo/journal blog-contraption. Until then its most likely to be pre-planning blog which will focus on preparing to study abroad for six month and planning travel to several other country’s in Europe as well. Enjoy.

I would like to talk to you about Hanne Bang’s project. Here is the description:
“This art project is called “In a war someone has to die.” I am going to find women from all over the world, and invite you to embroider the text: “In a war someone has to die”, on a handkerchief. The text must be in your own language, The handkerchiefs will eventually be sewn together into a great wall blanket. A commentary on the war and an act of solidarity to all those who have send husbands, fathers, sons, daughters and sisters, in war. In a war where someone has to die.”
There are 105 embroidered handkerchiefs at the moment and it is less than half of what they need so if you’re interested in participating in this project, go over to Hanne Bang’s Facebook page In A War Someone Has to Die for more information. Also if the issue is that you don’t have any handkerchiefs to embroider on, they can send some to you. I also asked by e-mail about the fact that they only include women in the description but Hanne replied that men are welcome to embroider handkerchiefs too.
